Different ways to connect

Find the gathering that feels right for you.

Some days call for a listening ear. Others call for a shared meal or a little time out with people who understand. Here is what the different kinds of Widow Care gatherings offer.

01 · Online support

Weekly peer support group

A conversation with other widows and widowers, with room to share experiences, ask questions, and listen. You do not need to have the right words or tell your whole story to take part.

The current Meetup schedule lists Thursday Zoom meetings from 7–9 pm Eastern Time. These are peer-support gatherings, not therapy or a crisis service. Check the individual event on Meetup for attendance and joining details.

02 · Around the table

Lunches & shared meals

Meet over a meal and get to know people through everyday conversation. A shared table offers a different kind of connection from a support group: time together, a familiar activity, and an opportunity to build friendships.

The calendar currently includes lunch at Burtons Grill & Bar. Venues, times, and any meal costs depend on the outing; read the Meetup listing before registering.

03 · Casual connection

Social meetups & happy hours

Informal gatherings offer a chance to step out, meet familiar faces, and spend time in company without the structure of a discussion group. You can start with an event that fits your comfort level and interests.

Recent Meetup listings have included a happy hour at Outta the Way Cafe. Social events are scheduled individually, rather than on a fixed timetable; Meetup has the latest dates and details.

04 · An evening out

Live music & entertainment

Enjoy a local performance with others in the community. Having something to watch or listen to together can make an outing feel more relaxed, with conversation growing naturally around the shared experience.

Past Meetup listings include King Teddy Band and Jesters to the Left Band. Future performances, locations, start times, and any ticket or cover charges should be confirmed in the individual Meetup event.

05 · Shared activities

Picnics, game nights & other gatherings

The community’s broader mix of activities includes picnics, game nights, and other informal ways to spend time together. A shared activity gives people something to enjoy alongside the opportunity to connect.

These are occasional activities, not a standing weekly program. Check for a dated listing before making plans, and review any weather, accessibility, or participation information on Meetup.

06 · Learning together

Educational seminars & conversations

Educational gatherings offer another way to connect: learning about practical resources and the experiences of life after a loss. The topic and format depend on the session, rather than following the open conversation of a peer-support group.

No upcoming seminar is listed in the calendar above at present. Contact Widow Care about future sessions and available resources; when a date is announced, check the event details before attending.

Not sure where to begin?

You do not have to try everything. Choose one gathering, read the details, and take the next step at your own pace. If you would like to talk it through first, the Widow Care team can help.
